Our purpose is to identify the health care needs of all of the residents of the City of Worcester and Worcester County with focus on the elderly and long-term care issues; to support the efforts of non-profit and other health care organizations, social service providers, medical facilities and others which deliver medical and health care services to residents of Worcester County; to encourage, promote and support the development of medical and health care programs serving the residents of Worcester and Worcester County; to encourage cooperation between Saint Francis Community Health Care, nursing homes, hospitals, social service providers and health care providers serving the residents of Worcester and Worcester County; to provide financial and other assistance to non-profit and other health care organizations, social service providers and medical facilities; to promote the scientific, literary, educational, public health, public safety or civic purposes of such entities for the direct benefit of the residents of Worcester and Worcester County.

The Saint Francis Community Health Care (SFCHC) Foundation intends to award grants to fund new programs or the continuation or expansion of existing programs that address one or more of the issues raised above. For existing programs, grants would be awarded in order to extend services to a greater number of beneficiaries and not to supplant other ongoing funding sources.

Applications will be judged by the SFCHC Board of Directors on the basis of:

  • The program’s ability to address one or more of the needs outlined above
  • The importance of the particular problem being addressed and the number of people who will be served
  • The qualifications of the organization(s) sponsoring and implementing the program
  • The sustainability of the program
  • Collaboration between the program and other community resources

The degree to which the program can provide linguistically and culturally appropriate services

The Board of Directors will accept applications for grants through September 1, annually. While there may be some exceptions, the funds will be distributed during the last quarter of each year. It is estimated that total funds to be distributed will, again, be around $180,000.
